As long as there have been humans there has been art, and as long as there has been art, it has confronted the mysteries and exalted the splendors that lie at the heart of what it means to be human itself. No composer did this more profoundly than Mahler, and no Mahler symphony reaches the emotional depths of his final completed work, Symphony No. 9. Andrés Orozco-Estrada leads this moving meditation on life and death, which ends with a breathtaking descent into rapt silence.
