Be-Longing

Discover Be-Longing!
An object is chosen to be the trigger for a story of a journey that evokes uprooting and regeneration. A set of four videos presents stories between two speakers, one, the issuer of a mother tongue and the other, represents the mediator who personifies a new local generation that articulates the dominant English language. This material object evokes cultural ties that are seemingly enigmatic to everyone, except to those who retain their mother tongue.
The Be-Longing project aims to make visible some of these most widely spoken languages in Houston: Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and Igbo.

Se elige un objeto para que sea el detonante de una historia de viaje que evoca el desarraigo y la regeneración. Un conjunto de cuatro videos presenta historias entre dos hablantes, uno, el emisor de una lengua materna y el otro, representa al mediador que personifica una nueva generación local que articula la lengua inglesa dominante. Este objeto material evoca lazos culturales aparentemente enigmáticos para todos, excepto para aquellos que conservan su lengua materna. El proyecto Be-Longing tiene como objetivo visibilizar algunos de estos idiomas más hablados en Houston: español, ruso, árabe e igbo.
