In this workshop, we will explore what poetry is, why we write it, and how we write it.
To understand the fundamentals of what makes a poem a poem, we will examine a broad range of poetic forms and styles, from the lyrical to the prose to the plain-spoken or conversational poem. Through guided writing prompts, students will experiment with writing their own poems in varying styles, challenging themselves to try new forms, tones, and approaches. We will do some serious learning in our time together, but, more importantly, we will open ourselves to playfulness and the joy of writing. We will find out what it means to see poetry as a tool to connect at a deeper level with ourselvesView more
