Laura Rathe Fine Art presents Wild Child, a playful group exhibition featuring Marcos Anziani, Gian Garofalo and Katherine Houston

Inspired by daily life and his two children, Anziani’s paintings combine lyrical abstraction with
expressionism in large, gestural strokes of color. The dazzling energy of the color is, as the artist says,
curbed through context and line. Protean images of people and objects emerge from this technique,
producing energetic paintings that dance over the canvas.
With an emphasis on primary color, Garofalo takes us back to the basics through his unique
drip technique, combining numerous delineated strips of saturated color on a single panel. The drips
punctuate the work by suspended droplets of paint at the bottom that simultaneously highlight and
challenge gravity. These precise vertical forms instantly grab the attention of the viewer, transporting us to
a time when our world was colored by such hues. Reminiscent of early childhood, Houston uses cubes as a vehicle to highlight her unique technique of
color blocking and reverse painting. Each cube displays shades of singular colors, but when composed
together as an installation, they offer viewers a transformative exploration of light. Wild Child will be on display through June 19th, 2023.
