Mr. Hobbs' Vacation

The Purple Box Theater Purple Box Players present Mr. Hobbs' Vacation, running MAY 2-10 at The Purple Box Theater, 1305 W. Parkwood Suite c-107, Friendswood, Texas.

From the moment their vacation plans are first discussed Mr. Hobbs evinces misgivings about trekking off to an unfamiliar island on the New England coast, but the combined enthusiasm of wife Peggy and daughter Kate soon overwhelm his feeble opposition.

Away they go to Rock Harbor, but they have no sooner reached their destination, crumpled and road-weary, than Mr. Hobbs' dire predictions begin to come true.

A perfect summertime diversion, the fast-moving comedy Mr. Hobbs' Vacation follows a reluctant businessman on a dreaded trip to the shore with his eager wife and daughter. Fearing he's in for anything but fun, the put-upon Mr. Hobbs soon finds his nightmare coming true, as he's trapped in a house with bad plumbing and his uber-intellectual son-in-law, and then dragged off on a variety of bird-watching, sailing and drinking expeditions.

Adapted from the novel by Edward Streeter, the story was also turned into a 1962 film starring James Stewart and Maureen O'Hara.
