Noon Lecture-Lamar's Folly
Please note, this event has expired.
Join us as acclaimed Austin historian & novelist Jeffery Kerr tells tales of Mirabeau Lamar, Sam Houston and the city of Houston’s early years. This will be a great speech everyone will want to attend.
All you need to know about the Republic of Texas’s second president, Mirabeau B. Lamar, is that his middle name was Bonaparte, a name he lived up to with his dreams of a Texas empire expanding to the Pacific Ocean. While Lamar dreamed big, Sam Houston, the Republic’s first and third president, aspired to keep his Lone Star Republic alive and join it with the United States. Lamar and Houston, rivals always, hated and sued each other in Harris County District Court, generating the very last appeal that the Republic of Texas’s Supreme Court decided.
