Take Root

PDC Works presents Take Root an evening length, multidisciplinary performance in collaboration with composer Rob Smith featuring original music and choreography by PDC Works director, Sophia Torres. Performing live are guest musicians Nina Bledsoe-Knight (viola), Roberto de Guzman (clarinet) and Bree Ahern (cello).

Through its investigation into the understory world of trees, Take Root reveals the underground living network through which trees communicate, collaborate, share resources, and give defense signals. A series of pre-show talks with local environmental and conservation leaders and faculty members will provide context for the piece. The unconventional venue of the Hines Architecture Building hopes to encourage the audience to walk around the ‘root’ sculpture centered in the lobby prior to and post performances as well as experience the live shows from various vantage points.
