The Jung Center of Houston presents Taking a Deeper Look at Shame, Self-Esteem, and Their Shadows.
Is there anyone among us who has not suffered from shame and its impact on self-esteem in daily life and relationships? The unconscious origins and dynamics of shame are varied and run deep, but as mental health professionals we face a difficult challenge: what might be necessary to avoid incurring further experiences of shame and loss of self-esteem with those we serve?
We will work interactively to explore and expand our understanding of the dynamic relationship between shame and self-esteem.

A Jungian perspective on shame and its impact on self-esteem will be followed by related exercises and the use of film, with the goal of developing a safer, healthier, and more ethical experience for ourselves and those who seek our help.
Karen Magee, MA, LMFT, LPC (pictured), is a graduate of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, a former faculty member for the Jungian Studies Program at Saybrook University, and a senior training analyst for the TX Seminar of the Inter-Regional. She has been an instructor at The Jung Center for more than 20 years and is known for her work with ethics and the use of film as a means for psychological exploration. A Jung Center Trustee, Karen works with individuals, couples, and families in her private practice.
