Founded in 1989, Target Hunger’s mission is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the northeast and east Houston neighborhoods we serve. At that time, the agency’s focus was addressing hunger in Houston’s historic Fifth Ward. Today, Target Hunger is one of Houston’s largest organizations providing food assistance to people in need, distributing food to people who come from 140 zip codes around the Greater Houston region. Families that need help getting enough food often struggle with other essentials and our Navigation Program, staffed by Community Health Workers, helps families determine their needs and gain access to beneficial resources.
