The Houston Jazz Collective Presents The Houston Jazz Festival featuring The Duke Ellington Orchestra

The Houston Jazz Collective proudly presents The American Masters Series, a captivating fusion of The Duke Ellington Orchestra, special guest Paul Mercer Ellington, and the evocative artistry found within Jack Whitten’s mesmerizing mosaic masterpiece, “The Predominance of Tan Black and Blue (The Duke of Ellington’s Centennial Celebration) 1999.” This extraordinary event commemorates the centenary of The Duke Ellington Orchestra and harmonizes with the historic significance of the Miller Outdoor Theatre.
Guiding this once-in-a-hundred-year extravaganza is Paul Mercer Ellington, the grandson of Duke Ellington and son of Mercer Ellington. Duke’s legacy, spanning from 1923 through countless concerts and global tours, echoes as a testament to his unparalleled artistry. Under the direction of Music Director Charlie Young, a former orchestra member himself, the ensemble continues to embody the essence of Duke’s creative spirit.
