The Menil Collection presents the Vivian L. Smith Foundation Symposium: Materiality and Postwar Art, Friday, May 2, 2014 at 7:00pm.

To speak about postwar art of the late 1940s and 1950s in terms of differences—the rise of abstraction in America; the simultaneous revival of figuration in Europe—is to overlook the physical qualities that these works of art shared as objects.
