Zalman Schachter-Shalomi's "From Ageing to Sageing": A Book Study (In Person)

Published in 1995, Zalman Schachter-Shalomi’s From Age-ing to Sage-ing was key in instigating the contemporary movement for “conscious ageing.” In contrast to the cultural view of ageing as decline, “Reb Zalman” re-envisioned elderhood as a time of spiritual growth, personal fulfillment, and social contribution. Examining “the art of life completion,” he popularized such notions as “spiritual eldering,” “life harvesting,” and the “eternity factor” – the panoramic outlook that can come with advanced years – and he extolled the role that elders might play in healing, forgiveness, mentoring, consciousness expansion, and ecological awareness.
