Academy of Houston was founded by Mary Elizabeth Arrington and Luis Fuente. The school is home to City Ballet of Houston, an honor company of Regional Dance America/Southwest. ACBH’s affiliation with City Ballet of Houston allows its students access to performing venues such as Jones Hall and the 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston where the company has performed their Nutcrackers for the past 25 years. City Ballet of Houston is a non-for-profit organization and depends on public support and philanthropic support. The donations of many hours of service from an active board, along with parents and other volunteers, ensures, the continued success of the company. City Ballet of Houston is a Charter Member, and an Honor Company of the Regional Dance America/Southwest.

City Ballet of Houston (Margo Marshall School of Ballet)

City Ballet of Houston has been dedicated to supporting youth and community since its inception in 1958. It is recognized as a company that brings quality performances to the community and prepares young dancers for professional careers. Internationally known Artistic Director Margo Marshall, along with Associate Artistic Director Mary Elizabeth Arrington, and Artistic Advisor Dennis Marshall continue to lead City Ballet of Houston on a path of excellence, consisting of the highest quality of performing and training standards. They are joined by an ever-growing host of renowned Artistic Advisors including Mr. Fredric Franklin, distinguished choreographer and teacher; Ms Anna-Marie Holmes, internationally known principal dancer, teacher and former Artistic Director of Boston Ballet; Mr. Michael Uthoff, Choreographer, former Principal Dancer of Joffrey Ballet and former Artistic Director of Ballet Arizona, Ms. Patricia Wilde, former Principle Dancer and former Artistic Director of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Alun Jones, Choreographer and former Artistic Director of the Louisville Ballet. The Artists-in Residence form the nucleus of City Ballet of Houston. These dancers bring artistic and professional experiences into the company, and provide inspiration and are role models for the other dancers. This combination of experience and youthfulness gives the company a unique personality and a rich educational environment. Dancers from City Ballet of Houston have joined numerous companies throughout the country including Atlanta Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Ballet Austin, Ballet de Santiago, Boston Ballet, Chicago City Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Sacramento Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Tennessee Festival Ballet, Tulsa Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Het National and New York City Ballet . The number of C.B.H. Ex-Dancers that are now Teachers and Directors of their own Schools, and Companies rises each year. City Ballet of Houston produces a variety of performances and educational functions throughout the year in the greater Houston and Galveston areas. Beginning in 1969 City Ballet of Houston has brought world renowned, teachers and choreographers to Houston, to teach master classes and annual summer workshops for the company. These teachers and choreographers have included Olga Baltacheyeva, Pavel Fomin, Luis Fuente, Anna-Marie Holmes, Alun Jones, Ted Kivett, Elvira Kokorina, John Magnus, Alexander Minz, Yuli Pandi, Michael Phillips, Michael Uthoff, Bruce Wells, Alan Hineline, Roni Mahler, Margo Sappington, Soili Arvola, Leo Ahonen and Robert Underwood, as well as numerous others. (view resumes) Since 1978 City Ballet of Houston has delighted audiences with their productions of Tchaikovsky’s, “The Nutcracker”, staged by Fredric Franklin. Starting in 1986 Inner City Productions, Inc., the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, the Houston Independent School District and the Cultural Arts Council of Houston have sponsored City Ballet of Houston’s “Special Inner City Nutcracker” performances for inner city school children. Every September C.B.H. auditions H.I.S.D. school children in different city parks, for “children’s parts” in the Nutcracker. Within six to eight weeks, children with budding talents are transformed into blossoming artists. Approximately 2500-3000 school children are bused to Jones Hall for the morning performances. At the Claire School of Dance, children are transported to a wonderful world of music and movement. At the Claire School of Dance, dancing is magical! In addition to our facilities at 1703 Heights Blvd, inside the Heights Christian Church education building, we also hold classes at 1245 Heights Blvd, top floor of the building with “Grace United Methodist Church” painted on the side.

Clann Kelly School of Irish Dance

About Clann Kelly Clann Kelly (meaning Kelly Family in Irish) is an Irish dancing school established in 2016 and is registered with An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, The Irish Dancing Commission, in Dublin, Ireland. We teach both boys and girls—ages 5 to adult—the steps, rhythms and movements of Irish dancing. This dance form is an excellent way for children and adults both to stay active and strong. From our smallest beginners to our champions, Clann Kelly dancers strive for excellence both on stage and in the classroom. Though competition is not a requirement for attendance, Clann Kelly encourages dancers to compete at the appropriate level with Anna’s guidance. Our Teacher Anna Kelly has been dancing nearly her entire life, beginning her journey in Irish dancing at age seven. Anna took Irish dancing throughout her childhood and early adulthood in Houston and New Orleans, beginning with Southern Region pioneer Paul Tynan. After Paul’s passing, she began dancing with Colm O’Maoileidigh, where she danced for more than 20 years. During her dancing days she also had the good fortune to study under such teachers as Eimir Ni Mhaoileidigh, New Orleanian Mary Ann McGrath Swaim, and Michael Smith. In her competitive career, Anna advanced to Open Championships, the premiere level of Irish dancing. She attended the Southern Region Oireachtas for three years and qualified for the World Championships each time, representing the Southern Region by dancing at the Worlds in Belfast, Ireland in 2004. After working as an assistant teacher for many years, Anna took the TCRG exam, an exhaustive test to become a registered Irish dancing teacher, in October 2014 and passed on the first try. Today she is the owner and founder of Clann Kelly and is excited to share her love of Irish dancing with her hometown. Values Clann Kelly seeks to present an atmosphere for learning Irish dancing that is positive, healthy and fosters friendships between all our dancers. Our school’s name was chosen because we truly believe that when you enter Clann Kelly, you’re not just gaining a dance school—you’re gaining an extended family. “Nothing Without Labour” is the motto of County Down, where Anna’s mother’s side of the family is from, as well as the unofficial school motto. We know that each medal or trophy earned at a competition is a reflection of the hard work our students put in during their class and practice time. By making the most of every lesson, our classes not only teach traditional Irish dancing, but also the value of healthy work ethic, determination, and discipline. In the competitive arena, Clann Kelly dancers are expected to display the highest degree of good sportsmanship—humble in victory, and gracious in defeat.

THE COLOMBIAN FOLKLORIC BALLET (CFB), is non-profit tax-exempt organization that has established a free professional level instruction and training center in Houston. Special emphasis is placed on training youth with positive and culturally affirming activities. The CFB promotes Colombian-American cultural exchange by spreading the Colombian culture through its educational, performing and producing activities including, among others, the presentation of the sold-out musical “Mi Colombia” in renowned auditoriums of major American cities.

Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts - UH

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts is dedicated to ground-breaking, transformative collaborations across the performing, visual, and literary arts. Based at the University of Houston, the Mitchell Center commissions and produces new works, presents public performances and exhibitions, offers curriculum and scholarships, and hosts residencies with renowned visiting artists from throughout the world. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is an outdoor amphitheater in The Woodlands, TX featuring performing arts events and contemporary concerts. The Pavilion’s mission is to present a diverse offering of performing arts events, to be a catalyst for new audiences and enhance appreciation for the arts, to provide educational programs about the performing arts and to provide training and performance opportunities for young artists. The Pavilion is owned and operated by The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, a nonprofit organization, and governed by a volunteer board of directors. The Pavilion is famous for its lawn and seating on the hill. The Pavilion’s capacity is 16,015 with 6,347 covered reserved seating and 9,668 lawn seating. In 2009, The Pavilion underwent a $9.5 million renovation after damage sustained from Hurricane Ike in September 2008. The Pavilion also has an official volunteer organization called The Pavilion Partners. Partners does a variety of work including fundraising and scholarships.

Dance Salad Festival/Houston International Dance Coalition

Dance Salad Festival is a project of the Houston International Dance Coalition (a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization), and is committed to a multi-cultural presentation of diverse dance disciplines at the highest professional level. Dance Salad Festival provides a venue for local, national and international choreographers, across dance disciplines, to present their work to the Houston community in a collaborative-curated performance at the city’s premiere theater complex, the Wortham Center. Dance Salad Festival is a curated international production with performances by companies in the United States and around the world chosen solely for their excellence, an event that can be seen only in Houston. Classical, modern and contemporary dance share the Dance Salad stage to form a magnificent mélange of styles and traditions. Members of some of the world’s best dance companies come to Houston to participate in the Festival which also includes a full week of education and outreach activities culminating in three nights of performance. Each night’s production is different yet is designed as a coherent, expressive performance which interweaves with the others to create a compelling whole. In a recent special section of The Houston Chronicle entitled "Houston’s Ultimate People," Nancy Henderek is described as a "one-woman United Nations."
