The Houston Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition will take place on December 14, 2019 at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music with exceptional young singers. This is free and open to the public, from 10-4 p.m.
The Competition will be held in Duncan Hall, free to the public. Come for an aria or stay fo the day.
Approximately 40 talented young artists will compete for $7,500 in cash prizes and a chance to perform on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera. Houston District winners will participate in the Regional Auditions in New Orleans Sunday, January 5, 2020, striving to reach the Grand Finals on Sunday, March 1, 2020 in New York. Recent Houston Grand Opera Studio Artists who won in the past include Jamie Barton, Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Reginald Smith, Jr., Yelena Dyachek, Sol Jin, Thomas Glass and Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen and this season’s Studio artists Elena Villalón, Richard Trey Smagur and William Guanbo Su.
