Asymmetry of Entropy

Asymmetry of Entropy

Presented by Sawyer Yards Houston at SITE Gallery

An interactive experiential installation reinterpreting the process of entering a black hole aimed to elicit introspective response through complete immersion into the piece. Using an array of modern and primitive materials, each visitor is drawn, one at a time, through the accretion disk, across the event horizon, and into the black hole.

The accretion disk, made of LED lighting and mirrors, envelopes and pulls the visitor through the event horizon, and then thrusts them into the vast and utter darkness of the black hole. Auditory feedback deconstructs and recontextualizes any sound coming from the visitor to simulate the destructive forces inside the black hole.
