Based on the dances of the famous shikaat or Moroccan dancers of the traveling people, this lively and energetic dance style is performed socially as well as in performance. Known for their highly entertaining performance, shikaat used the tambourine to call attention to their performance and gather an audience as well as to accompany the rhythm of the dance. Often performed in groups of two or three. this sensual, fun dance, can also be performed as a solo and highlight’s unique hip technique and cultural gestures emphasized by the tambourine.
