The Dream@50 presents Dance the Dream Houston, Sunday, May 18, 2014. WHERE: Discovery Green and throughout Houston.

Dance the Dream Houston is part of a worldwide music and dance tribute that brings the entire city of Houston together to celebrate the values and goals of the “I Have a Dream” speech.

Dance the Dream Houston is directed by Jane Weiner and features an original arrangement of Stevie Wonder’s hit, “Heaven Help Us All,” with the South African Youth Choir. A speaker at TEDx Houston, Jane Weiner is Artistic Director of Hope Stone Dance Company, one of Houston’s leading modern dance companies.

All Houston residents are invited to join the city’s top professional and student dancers in commemorating the “I Have a Dream” speech and supporting equity rights for all Americans.

Dance the Dream Houston is being taped for a feature documentary, “The Dream,” and for New York City’s World Peace Day event in Times Square, September 21, 2014.

PARTNERS: Dance the Dream Houston is produced in local partnership with Dance Source Houston, Discovery Green, and the Houston Museum of African American Culture and in national/international partnership with the United Nations, UNESCO, YouTube, U.S. Mission to UNESCO, International Theatre Institute, The King Center, Global Arts Link, Americans for the Arts, Dance/USA, National Dance Education Organization, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, National Education Association, National Art Education Association, National Council of Teachers of English, National Council for the Social Studies, Arts Schools Network, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, United Way, Dance Camera West, Dance Films Association, CBS Outdoor, and the Times Square Alliance.

The mission of Dance the Dream is to build stronger communities and to inspire and empower participants to follow in the footsteps of Martin Luther King, Jr. and make the world better.

Dance the Dream Houston is produced in partnership with the Houston Arts Alliance, Dance Source Houston, Houston Ballet, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Discovery Green, Volunteer Houston, Radio One (97.9 The Box and Majic 102.1) and KPRC-TV (NBC, Channel 2).

Admission Info

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for Dance the Dream Houston.

Everyone is invited to join Houston’s top professional and student dancers in celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream for a better world at Discovery Green on May 18, 1 p.m.

Registration is required for admittance and is free and open to the public.
