2014 MenilFest

2014 MenilFest

Presented by Menil Collection and Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts at Menil Collection

The Menil Collection museum and a group of surrounding non-profit arts organizations come together on Saturday, May 3 MenilFest. Back for the sixth year, now with a much shorter name (formerly called the Menil Community Arts Festival and Houston Indie Book Fest), MenilFest takes over the Menil Campus for an extraordinary day of FREE art and entertainment on Saturday, May 3, from 11AM to 6PM (rain or shine).

Highlighting the diversity of the Menil neighborhood arts community, the festival will include musical performances, spoken word, Chakra tuning, literature, and visual art, all taking place on the Menil Collection lawn and the Menil Bookstore deck, as well as the Rothko Chapel and Houston Center for Photography.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

In addition to these performances and sales, attendees are invited to see the current exhibitions from The Menil Collection and Houston Center for Photography, readings hosted by Inprint and Gulf Coast Journal, poetry buskers, and kids art activities on the Menil Bookstore deck hosted by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

Snacks and refreshments will be available for sale from food trucks parked around the campus, and picnics are also welcomed and encouraged.

Participating organizations include Da Camera of Houston, Inprint, Houston Center for Photography, Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP), the Rothko Chapel, Writers in the Schools, The Menil Collection, Gulf Coast Journal, and the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

Support for MenilFest comes from Texas Commission on the Arts.
