Alonzo Gallery presents hunter/gatherer, an exhibition featuring new explorations in the non-flat by Patrick Renner and Alex Larsen. Their work communicates with a shared material language. Through the use of a variety found materials, the work contains a familiar yet undefined history. On view May 3 – June 7, 2014. Opening: May 3, 6-8:30 pm.
“We are part of a tribe in search of that which sustains more than survival. Like the nomadic societies of old, we traverse vast distances within the parameter of the city and cull what we need from the urban landscape.
Massive, lumbering animals, the carcasses of the decaying buildings fall into ruin around us, providing their skin and bones to be re-purposed into new effigies. Detritus is the spoor of modern society; we stalk the peeled-rubber tracks of the beast’s movements, gleaning its gifts from the ground, in the hopes that we can piece them together again and map out some picture of the ever-mutating organism.
The totems that result from our findings celebrate beauty combed from the castoff and decayed.”
