An Award-winning community band celebrates the Independence Day season! The Lone Star Symphonic Band will perform a patriotic concert, titled We Hold These Truths on Sunday June 29th, 2014 at 4:00 pm. The concert will be held at CrossPoint Community Church, located at 700 S. Westgreen Blvd., Katy, TX 77450.
The Katy Community Choir, directed by Mr. Steve Hoyle, will also perform several pieces with the Band during the concert.
Several selections that will be performed during the concert include Stars and Stripes Forever, God Bless the USA, Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful, Americans We, the Star Spangled Banner, and Salute to the Armed Forces.
Tickets are available online at www.lssband.org for $5.50 each, and will be available the day of the concert for $10 each.
There will also be several silent auction packages available for bidding before the concert and during intermission. Winners will be announced at the beginning of the second half of the show.
Items available for bidding include: movie passes to Alamo Drafthouse, a private tour for 12 including wine tasting to Pleasant Hill Winery, a 4 session wellness package to Axelrad Clinic, a dozen bagels with 2 tubs of spread each month for a year at Panera Bread, Family Membership for a year to the Houston Zoo, bed and breakfast getaway package to the Houstonian Hotel/Spa/Club, Backyard Grilling package, gift certificates to Melting Pot, Amy’s Ice Cream, Melting Pot, and Jason’s Deli, and a package from the Sugarland Skeeters.
The Lone Star Symphonic Band is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston metropolitan area. Founded in 1993 as the West Houston Concert Band, the band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event, continuing well beyond high school and college.
In the summer of 2011, the Band began rehearsing and performing concerts at CrossPoint Community Church, in Katy, Texas. In December 2012, the Lone Star Symphonic Band was awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll. The Sudler Silver Scroll is North America’s most prestigious award for Community Concert Bands. The award is administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation (www.sousafoundation.net).
The purpose of the award is to identify, recognize and honor those community bands that have demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years, and which have played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their respective communities.
The Band is under the direction of Mr. Bob Bryant.
