On 704 Chenevert in downtown Houston sat a non-descript, run down home with a vital connection to the city’s past. In this home lived a vibrant, influential, but sheltered woman named Blanche Foley. One of three childless offspring of a couple connected with the Foley’s Department store, Blanche was educated in Europe and came back to help found Houston’s fledgling symphony orchestra. Upon her death she left her entire estate to the Galveston-Houston Catholic Diocese.
